They didn’t execute the names they feared. Execution leaves a record. They sent them to Rabengaat, where the paperwork went to die first.
The Place
Rabengaat is the first documented stratum of Cairnfall: a fortress-penitentiary raised by one of the valley’s fallen kingdoms on a river-crag islet — the isolation of an island prison, with a flooding undercroft to prove it. It was the crown’s bastille for people it wanted forgotten, not merely punished — which is why its records, vaults, and prisoners were all still inside when the kingdom itself joined the valley floor. Bureaucratically forgotten first; historically forgotten after.
Rumor holds the royal vaults are down there, untouched. Rumor is why Cairnfoot exists.
