The crown didn’t bury its treasures. It buried its evidence. Sometimes those are the same box.

Half of this page is now real. Gear cards carry a rarity (common → mythical), and the uncommon, rare and epic tables below are in Content/gear.json; the Warden’s Truncheon, Crown-Debt Blade and Widowmaker’s Tooth are in weapons.json and swing today. An ordinary search draws only from the common shelf, so anything below must be placed by a feature card — a strongbox, a warding-glyph, a false floor — exactly as the fiction says.

What is still aspirational: the effects below are authored prose plus tags, with no bindings behind them yet, and the mythical tier is deliberately absent from the deck — it touches the deal, the injury table and the wipe rule, none of which have the hooks. Names lean Rabengaat; effects lean on systems that already exist (Break/Wound, conditions, the Clock, Pressures, the ledger), so nothing here needs a new subsystem — only new bindings.

Uncommon — found in a good strongbox

ItemWhat it does
Warden’s TruncheonBreaker, Break 4 / Wound 1 — on crit: Stun. Prison-issue, for prison problems
Gaoler’s KeyringBoon on locks; once per run, a mundane lock simply opens
Surveyor’s ChalkMark your route as you go; retracing a chalked path costs half the moments
Lamp-Oil, BlessedDress a torch or blade: its crits Ignite until the fight ends
Riverwax CloakThe damp doesn’t take you: water and mire never Slow you
Pauper’s CoinWorth 3 junk value — and it finds its way back into your pocket after it’s banked. Once

Rare — behind a warding-glyph, under a false floor

ItemWhat it does
Bell-Tower ShardOnce per encounter, ring it: every enemy’s next tempo marker slips 1 moment later. Stolen time, distilled
The Advocate’s SealOnce per run, press it to a wall: the nearest piece of Twist foreshadowing in the dungeon faintly glows. The Seal knows what the paperwork hid
Whetstone of GrudgesWhet your weapon against a faction that has Wounded you this run: +1 Wound against that faction until you rest
Saint’s KnuckleboneEach time the party rests, bank one Boon on the holder
Ledger-Bound Gauntlets+1 Guard; your Break counts +1 against warded and constructed things. The old kingdom’s own inspectors wore these
Sump-King’s BootsFatigue never denies your Wind while you keep moving — stop for a full rest and the debt catches up (take 1 Fatigue)

Epic — the strongroom’s actual contents

ItemWhat it does
The Warden’s Own KeyOpens any door in the stratum, no check, no time. But the dungeon feels it turn: every active Pressure advances each time you use it
Crown-Debt BladePiercing, Break 2 / Wound 3 — on crit: Refund. Its Wounds count double against anything that once served the crown
Mantle of the ForgottenWhile motionless in darkness you are Hidden — no roll, no action. Move, and you are merely a rumor
Chained PsalterOnce per run, read aloud: every cleansable condition on the party is cleansed. The chapel’s whole liturgy, abridged
Heart of the Old Ward+3 Guard, and anyone’s Patch fully restores you — but you now count as warded, and everything that hunts wards knows it

Mythical — rumor is why Cairnfoot exists

ItemWhat it does
The First King’s CofferWhat’s sealed inside is banked the moment it’s sealed — a wipe doesn’t forfeit it. The only pocket the mountain can’t pick
Widowmaker’s ToothBreaker, Break 6 / Wound 2 — on crit: Sunder and Deep Wound. Every kill it makes advances every active Pressure by 1. The mountain notices its tooth being used
The Unsent PardonOnce per campaign: a fallen novice’s injury roll of Gone becomes Returns Unscathed. Someone, finally, signed it
The Rabengaat Intake LedgerAfter a run, before the next deal: read one face-down card of your next contract. The paperwork went to die here — some of it is still warm

Authoring Notes

  • Uncommon items grant a Boon-shaped convenience or a sidegrade weapon. Rare touches the party’s economy (tempo, rest, faction grudges). Epic bends a rule outright — always with a cost the ledger can print. Mythical touches the meta: the deal, the injury table, the wipe rule. One per campaign is plenty.
  • Every effect above should be reconstructable post-run. If a treasure’s power can’t be shown in the ledger, it’s written wrong — same rule as the dungeon.
